From compact to DSLR.
My first camera was the Olympus C150 , a 2 megapixel camera. I always carried a compact camera with me to capture things that I was experiencing. Before leaving to Europe I got a brand new camera from a really good friend. He told me that I will meet a lot of people and visit a lot of places so I needed a new camera. Wuaw, that was an amazing camera. It was 6 megapixels and took really good macro pictures. I took pictures of my friends in school, buildings and architecture in the city and also of the beautiful blue waters of the beach. My mission call was to preach the gospel in Europe for 2 years. In short I took pictures everywhere and of everyone. It was the Sony cybershot DSC-W50. WUAAW, I totally loved the Sony cybershot....

What software besides Nikon Capture NX allows you to control and view images from the camera into a computer?
The camera would be connected via usb cable.
Do you mean tethered shooting? Capture NX doesn't allow that, if you want full camera control via USB you need Nikon Camera Control Pro.

I usually put the SD card into a card reader instead of using an usb cable, so i can't say for sure, but i think e.g. picasa would work via usb as well.
